Startup Delayer version 3.0 build 301 released

By Cliff Cawley on 26th May 2011

I've spent more time investigating optimizations for the startup speed of Startup Delayer itself. Along with the optimizations I've added to the code, when you install this build, the installer will take a few moments to optimize Startup Delayer to start faster on your computer. With this change you should see Startup Delayer's interface appear much quicker when you launch it.

Some users have been experiencing extremely slow startups when using Startup Delayer (2 minutes+). Not just when rebooting, but also just trying to open the interface to view Applications. Please let me know if this fixes or doesn't fix this problem for you as I've been unable to reproduce it on any machines here.

From what I can tell it has something to do with querying the Usernames from the Domain controller. For most people this is incredibly quick, but for some it seems to be timing out. In fact you'll be able to do a little bit of self diagnosis with this build as I've removed the query for the Username when starting your pc. So if it takes 2+ minutes to get into the Startup Delayer interface, but launching your applications at Startup goes fast, this might be where the problem is.

If you contact me about slowness still being present in build 301, I'll organise to send you a special version that will create a log file so I can find out where the slowness is occurring.

This build only has stability fixes and optimizations and I'd definitely recommend updating. You should notice further speed improvements with this build.
