Urgent Security Alert for Windows Users

By Cliff Cawley on 12th August 2003

This is a general alert to all users of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. There has been widespread reports of many computers being infected with the W32.Blaster.Worm, that makes use of a vulnerability in certain versions of Microsoft Windows. Signs that a machine is infected are seemingly random restarts that may begin with an abnormal error message informing you that your computer will be restarted.

While r2 software is not affected by this threat, we are posting this notice as a general alert so that damage caused by this worm can be minimised.

You can find more information regarding W32.Blaster by visiting the Symantec Security Response website. You can download the fix for W32.Blaster from Symantec at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe. Instructions for downloading and running the fix are found here.

Please continue to enjoy r2's award-winning and virus free software!
